Through collaborative efforts with the P-SCIP pharmacy workgroup, hydroxyurea can now be prescribed for 102 days. Members of the pharmacy workgroup have recommended that prescribers use this sig when writing for extended fills:
“Dispense entire 102-day supply”
“Chronic treatment for Sickle Cell Disease”
It is also helpful to be aware of pharmacies that offer home delivery options, as getting to the pharmacy can be a barrier for families.
